Thoughts Are Powerful, But Belief...by Dr. Charles Glassman, CoachMD

Thoughts Are Powerful, But Belief...by Dr. Charles Glassman, CoachMD

Like me, you have heard the cry, "Change your thoughts, change your life". If only it were that easy. Just change your thoughts on command. Well if it were so easy to change them, I contend that the negative ones wouldn't creep in so easily. That's because, the way I see it, those thoughts serve a purpose, albeit a maladaaptive one. We can thank our more highly evolved cerebral cortex for that. But just because that part of our brain is more evolved, it only means that the primitive part of our being is now more sophisticated in the way it protects us. It causes us to fight or flee anything that it perceives could be danger, and part of that fight-or-flight comes in the form of thoughts; such is their purpose. If we believe, trust, or take diirection from those thoughts, then yes they shape our life. However, when we choose not to believe in the limiting or self-defeating thoughts, but rather believe in our personal power, our individual greatness - the divine that exists within every single one of us - only then can we make the improbable possible.
