Post-chemotherapy cognitive impairment

Post-chemotherapy cognitive impairment - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

If you have had chemo and are having cognitive issues that have lasted more than a year or have gotten progressively worse it is time to see a Neurologist or Neuropsychologist. Don't let people tell you it is normal to always be forgetful. What is normal is to ocasionally be forgetful. You probably will have other symptoms as well. People are always tellimg me "oh that is normal, I can never remember anything".

I have numbing sensation in my head, my mind is like a chalkboard that has been erased at times. This has caused me to withdraw and stay home. I use to be always on the go. Love socializing, now more depressed and frustrated because I know it is not normal and don't know what is going on. Now since I have had my appointment with the Neurologist it brings up more concerns. Praying that there is no tumor (of course that is my first thought) or not a stroke. Something is causing a lack of bloodflow to the brain or it could be a deficiency.

Anyways, people will continue to tell you it is normal and it is your age. I say GARBAGE, I am not old and a person my age should not be having these symptoms this is something that would affect you about 10 years from now. So pay close attention to your health and YOU will know when something is not right. Chemo is such a harsh drug noone truly knows what it can do. Each persons body handles things differently. I had allergic reactions to mine. I remember after having 2 allergic reactions of being scared of what it would do to me the next time. Luckily my doctor was on top of things and changed my chemo he said we know what it is doing to the outside of your body but we cannot see what it is doing on the inside.

Cognitive Problems After Chemotherapy

Since I have completed my chemotherapy I have noticed alot of changes. I cannot add numbers in my head or even by looking at them. I have a hard time communicating, finding the right words to say. I get confused easy and my short time memory is just that SHORT. Which in a way is a good thing. My last appointment with my medical oncologist we discussed these changes and he said I should actually be coming out of the chemo fog, but for some reason my symptoms are going in the opposite direction, they are getting worse. So he referred me to a neurologist. Well today was that appointment. I was very impressed with the doctor and his knowledge and the fact that he listened to me. How many doctors do that today? Well needless to say, my brain will be examined. I will have an EEG and an MRI of my Brain also an EMG done.

So funny, as owning a Medical Billing Company these charges I would bill out all the time and never once thought I would actually be having them done.

So I finally did it...

After TWO years of googling and price comparisson shopping I broke down and bought me (yes me) a Keurig.  I had decided there was not going to be a huge sale on these things and the prices were pretty much the same.  But, I was so disappointed, until this morning.  I will tell you why, you can't control the amount of water that it uses (atleast in the one I bought) and everything tasted like hot water with a little flavor.  I have gone thru so many K-cups trying to get that just right cup of coffee or hot chocolate.   Everyone has told me that the Donut Shop Coffee was pretty good.  I had one in my variety pack that came with my Keurig, so I decided to make that one this morning.  BINGO, a great cup of coffee.  I only wish now I had another K-cup of the Donut Shop Coffee for my second cup of coffee.

I read everything about these machines but guess I did not fully understand the difference on them until now.  If I had it to do again I probably would have bought the next one up that allows you to choose three different cup sizes.  I now get it the smaller the cup would have been actually better for me.  Ummm I think I might do an exchange.  Hey if you are going to spend that kind of money on a machine I believe you should be 100% happy and there should not be a I should of.....

Remission

Remission - what does it mean?  Noun: 1.The cancellation of a debt, charge, or penalty.
2.A diminution of the seriousness or intensity of disease or pain; a temporary recovery.

Okay, now that we know what it means.  PLEASE do not say to a cancer SURVIVOR "your cancer is in remission".  See remission is a temporary recovery.  We cancer SURVIVORS would like to think we are cancer free PERMANENTLY.  It is as if people are just waiting for the cancer to return.   Someone said to me a few weeks ago "well your cancer is only in remission"  WRONG thing to say.  I will never forget attending the Chemo class and we were told that most people automatically write you off once you get the diagnosis of cancer.

If you know someone who has gone through or is currently going through their journey, you should encourage them.  HOPE is so important.  Also, when someone passes away, they did not loose their battle to cancer, they WON.  Cancer no longer has them, it can no longer cause suffering or pain.

It is very difficult for me to write the last sentence because I do not like to discuss death.  I believe in what we talk about we bring about.

Have you heard of Become.com?

Well, I have not until today.  Evidently this one got by me.  So you know when I hear of something new I have to GOOGLE IT and find out what it is all about.  It was founded in 2004 and has been named Best of the Web by Forbes Magazine.  Also named the Top Deal tracking site by PC Magazine.  So what is it?  It is a shopping discovery search engine and price comparison service.  Love  "Shopping Your Way".

Interested in boots?  Try discount mark nason boots lyrics you can search by color, size.  Besides there being a product tab there is also a guides tab.  This has the five basic boot types from MSN Lifestyle  Beauty & Fashion, and more.

First Day of Vacation....

Have you ever heard of "Where's your sign"?  I wonder if today has tried telling me something.  I had reserved an SUV that seats 7 on Monday.  In our town by Friday there are no rentals, just to give you a little info.  So today is the day we leave for our mini-vacation.  We go and pick up this beautiful white Toyota 4 Runner.  We are just about to transfer everything over from my truck and I could not figure out how this was a seven seater.  It had no more room than my SUV.  So I called the rental place and said, I can't figure out how this seats seven.  So they had to look, and Yep it was not a 7 seater.  So what am I suppose to do now.  I have reservations at the beach and 4 children ready to go.  So we are all trying to come up with a solution.  Now remember there are no other rentals available.  The rental came up with reducing the rate to a mid size car and we ended up bringing 2 vehicles (SUV).  So then we were on the road.   Stopped at a rest area for a potty break and realized Hubby forgot to load the clothes that were packed for him and our littlest one.  Road trip was good, just a little rain.  Checked into our room, then left for dinner.  We figured we would go to our favorite place "Barnacle Bills".  Well guess what, no longer Barnacle Bills.  We still went in and ate.   Let's just say we will not do that place again.  Now for the icing on the cake, Little man throws up all over the bedroom.  He is feeling much better now.   I could look at this two different ways. I am just going to say we got all the bad out of the way so now the rest of the trip is going to be AWESOME.  Did I mention there is suppose to be thunderstorms up until we leave.....

Knorr Homestyle Stock Chicken Broth

I received Knorr Homestyle Stock Chicken Broth in the mail from Smiley360.   I tried it out over the weekend and also tried their Slow Cooker Pulled Pork recipe.  Since I do not have a slow cooker/crock pot, I put mine in a cooking bag along with all the ingredients plus cinnamon.  I love to use cinnamon with pork.  So I cooked it for 3 hours on low in the oven.  Then I let it cool off and put in the refridgerator.  After Church on Sunday I shredded the meat and heated up for lunch.

This was the best!  I was very impressed with the Knorr Homestyle Stock.  Smells very good when you open it and taste is full of flavor.  I highly recommend this product and will keep it stocked in my pantry.

Yummy Dessert

I bought a mini loaf pan and tried it out today.  I made Strawberry / Brownie cake.  Big Hit!!!

Recycle - craft

We go thru a lot of chocolate milk at my home.  So I save the containers.  They make great bug containers for my son.  You can also decorate them to store things in.  I decorated this one for my desk to put pens in and misc items.

Waffles

We did waffles for breakfast with peanut butter and syrup.  BIG hit and so simple.

Happy Groundhog Day

I was talking with a friend of mine this morning as we were looking to see if Punxsutawney Phil seen his shadow.  Guess what?  He did?  So now we have six more weeks of Winter.  But wait, here in the South we have not even had six weeks of Winter yet, so I guess it is to come.  The next few days will be in the 70's.

I thought of the Movie "Goundhog Day" this morning when I was thinking about what all I had to do today, yep, the same thing as yesterday.  Four children in the home makes it hard to get to the next level.  It is definitely a mastered skill that I have not mastered yet.

American Cancer Society - Blood Work FAQs: Understanding Test Results

Great informative newsletter from the American Cancer Society

American Cancer Society - Blood Work FAQs: Understanding Test Results

Wear Red

February has arrived and along with February with have Heart Health Awareness month.  Heart disease is the number one silent killer among women.  Heart disease runs in my family.  My Mother had a massive heart attack at age 58 that claimed her life.  Before I was diagnosised with cervical cancer I was following up with my primary care physician (and still am) for high blood pressure and tachycardia.  Most people don't even know they have high blood pressure.

I strongly urge everyone to know their numbers.  This is done by your health care provider ordering a complete blood work up.  Our blood does tell so much about what is going on.  Know what your good cholesterol is and your bad.  Never wait till you have symptoms.  We need to be pro active about our health.
